President Nechirvan Barzani of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) of Iraq met with Syrian President Ahmed Shara.
A statement from the Presidency’s website noted that KRG President Barzani held a phone conversation with Syrian President Shara on the evening of Monday, April 6.
The statement read: “Both leaders evaluated the situation in the region and recent developments in war and conflict. In this context, it was emphasized that increasing diplomatic efforts is of great importance for stopping the war and resolving issues peacefully.”
During the meeting, which addressed the situation in the KRG and Iraq, Barzani and Shara emphasized the importance of preserving regional peace. In this framework, President Shara reportedly condemned the attacks against the KRG.
Finally, the statement also included expressions such as: “Kurds in Syria and the relations between Syria and Iraq were also among the topics discussed. During the meeting, it was stated that the ties and cooperation between Syria and Iraq should be strengthened.”
